Driven one. I’d take a 4C instead with my imaginary stack of bills.

I would, too. But I’d probably get it in another color, and/or lose those blue accents.

Kinja'd!!!

I had one for 6 months. It was great, and then they announced they were tripling production. I sold it back two days later to my dealer for what I paid for it minus taxes. Two months later they stopped replying to my emails and calls about the M2...probably because they didn’t get the memo that BMW had decided to flood the market with them and they were stuck trying to sell my i8 with 6k miles for more than sticker to not lose money on it, next to four new i8's BMW had rushed out the door they were selling for at or below sticker. They were told to expect one i8 every 4-6 months, they started getting 1-2 per month.

Don’t worry, if you want one they will be easy to get from a supply perspective. You can already lease new ones for less than $1k a month. I knew from the moment they announced the increase in production I needed to get rid of it asap, before the market dropped out from under everyone.

That said. It felt like driving the future.

My neighbor had one. I was constantly torn between if I hated it...or loved it. It was a strange relationship. He liked it when I parked my E92 M3 next to him, but not my face on when I looked at the car.

They are super cool. Some jagaloon on my street has one, he has almost hit me at least half a dozen times pulling out of his driveway!

Would you buy another one?

Still planning on an M2, or happy with the RS for now?

Have you driven an Elise/Exige? Wondering how they stack up against the 4C in your mind.

Sadly I haven’t. I can tell you the 4C is slower and more jittery than a Cayman but also waaaay more fun to drive. The 4C feels like a 3/4 scale LMP1 prototype.

Truly a bonkers automobile. Very glad it actually made it to market.

Which Cayman(s) have you driven?

Love the car, hate the colors. It’s all boring grayscale now that they discontinued the gorgeous Protonic Blue:

They did start offering the new Protonic Red, and BMW of Manhattan wrapped two of their gray i8's green and yellow.

Just one. Actually it was a 718 with the turbo-4.

I need to get a drive in a GTS and also in a late-987 S (to compare steering feel).

I have very little desire for a 718. The aural experience is very important to me...

Am I the only one who finds the 718 rear end aesthetics vomit inducing. More and more i’m only a fan of the 981 looks.

Yeah, it’s definitely worse. To be honest, I’m more of a fan of the 987's rear end.

Dem hips...

I like them both but they still lack appeal from all angles (as do most cars). Feel like I have moved towards sickening 911 love anddddd that car is not in my future.

As a dad w 3 kids, a 911 makes a lot more sense if I go Porsche.

I like silver cars especially if there’s some contrast. That being said, at least there’s always vinyl. If I had the money for one and wanted a bright color I don’t think a vinyl wrap would be out of the question.

I like the 4C but they are such different cars. I wouldn’t consider a 4C if I was looking at an i8, but a Cayman/911 is a different story.

I was inspired to make this post because I found one on Turo for a very reasonable $150 a day. Wasn’t actually in a position to rent, but a cursory autotrader search showed them as being shockingly affordable considering how wild they look.

How did you think it drove compared to more conventional cars? I’m not sure what all you’ve driven, thes closest I’ve driven is probably a couple Caymans and Corvettes.

I’m kind of over them, though I see a billion of them per day working above a BMW dealership.
